saturday night fever
Yesterday was supposed to be fun. But, it wasn't. My co-worker was nice enough to invite us to a birthday party for her 5 year old grandson. He has autism and she thought it would be nice for Little Bear and Anthony to be friends. She also has another granson Hoho's age, so they could play together.
But, Hoho woke up with a fever of 101.8 and it stayed that way until after midnight. I asked him if his head, throat, ears, tummy, anything hurt. He would only answer, "No, HOT!"
I gave him water and baby Tylenol. He took a cool bath, he napped, and he cried. He whined all day long and I seriously couldn't take more than three steps away from him before he would cry and want me to pick him up. I don't mind comforting him, especially when he doesn't feel good, but sometimes mama's gotta pee, ya know! And mama would have liked to shower at some point.
I felt terrible for Little Bear. He kept asking when we were going to the party. Finally, I kinda snapped at him (after he asked me several hundred times and I had told him we weren't going because Hoho was sick several hundred times in response) and he finally got it and let it go. I felt especially bad because I had to devote so much time to Hoho yesterday that Little Bear was on his own to amuse himself most of the day. Thank God he loves playing Google Maps and Nick on his laptop.
In the afternoon, LB started asking me when we were going to "Anna Heina". I asked him, "Who is Anna Heina?". He tried to explain with the following: Anna Heina has the hotel. Anna Heina is on 91 Highway. Anna Heina has the mouse. We get gas in Anna Heina then we go on Harbor Boulevard to Disneyland!
Oh, I see. Annaheim. He wants to go to Disneyland. It's not as subtle a hint as he gave last week when all of his therapists were like, "Have fun at Disneyland!" as we were leaving." Apparently, he told them all that we were going. Oh, he is a smooth operator.
And now, I leave you with me as a Simpson's character. Thanks, Harriet!

on the road again
I was recently introduced to the game,Rock Band, by my co-worker. She had us all over to her house to play a couple of times and it was too much fun. I have become completely addicted.
Well, for my birthday the whole family chipped in and got it for me. And at first they were all, yes, we'll humor you and play a couple of songs... whatever.
Well, it took about five minutes to suck them all in. The first night Grumpy played bass, I sang, my father-in-law (Gris) played guitar, and my brother-in-law(Cakes)played drums. They were hilarious to watch. They were getting all into it. Finally, at 12:30, I was like I gotta go to work in the morning! I'm going home, and I'm taking it all with me! I thought they were going to follow me home.
As I was heading home from the grocery store the next day, my cell phone rings and Cakes says, where are you? I told him that I was driving home from the store and asked him why he wanted to know. He said he had just stopped by because Grumpy had left his sunglasses at their house. Whatever, I've left my sunglasses over there a million times and he's never tried to bring them back to me. So I say, Oh really, and...??? He says, a wee bit sheepishly, I was wondering if you want to play rock band. So, we did. And every night since.
It is a sickness.
Thank you for your support!
We'll be playing Seattle all week before moving on to Los Angeles.
Rock on!

things uttered by the up and coming smart ass
I've said this before... Little Bear has made this amazing transformation. In two short years he's gone from only saying a handful of repetetive syllable words like mama, dada, baba, and no-no, to a boy who speaks in complete sentences. I can't always understand him and sometimes he has to repeat himself a half dozen times before I can figure out what he is trying to say but holy cow, he talks.
Well, in the last few weeks, he has gone from talking up a storm to connecting thoughts and ideas that seem too advanced for a boy his age and with the delays he experiences. His teacher even said that he displays an advanced understanding of certain concepts and obscure humor (gee, I have NO idea where he got that gene, HA!)
I thought I'd share with you some things that have been heard around the Grumpy Bugg house lately.
When a helicopter flew over the house LB said, "Look, mama! Breaking news!"
After, I told LB(again)that NO he could NOT have candy, he said, "Hey, don't talk back to me, mama." - that didn't make mama too happy.
When I turned on the Today Show one morning, he said, "The Today Show again (very put out)! I want Cartoons.
The other night when SNL came on and the opening scenes showed Amy Poehler, LB said, "Hey, it's Amy Poehler! She's the Mighty B!" If you haven't seen her new cartoon, the Mighty B, YOU MUST WATCH IT. It is hilarious. And then you will understand what I am saying when LB makes me say everything like I am her. "It's Awesome." You'll see, really, trust me!
Nickelodeon was playing ET a few nights in a row and LB really wanted to see it but we kept missiing it, so I Netflixed (love you guys!) it for him. He watched it a million times and now says, "ET phone home" all the time.
LB was playing with HOHO in Nana's back yard and he hit HOHO with his sword and yelled, "I'm kicking your butt! Round 2, I'm kicking your butt, again!"
When he saw a car parked in a handicapped spot without a tag he said, "Hey, they shouldn't park there, jerk." (oops, that sounds familiar, hmmmm, I wonder who else says that, hmmmm.)
And, now when a fly buzzes around him he says "Stupid fly is bugging me." (and he laughs - "Get it, bugging me", god, he is totally my kid for sure, stupid puns come with the package). At least he doesn't say, "Stupid F***ING flies", which is what tends to pop out of my mouth when I am highly annoyed by the 8 zillion flies in my house. Hoho opens and closes the back door no less than 85 times an hour and lets all the stinking flies in. Arizona is full of frigging flies. I don't know why but I hate them.
When LB does/says something he shouldn't and gets in trouble, he has taken to getting this big as you please grin on his face and saying, "I'm, sorry, I love you mama",(without even one ounce of sincerity, so smarmy).
And finally, LB is fond of saying, "knock, knock...who's there?" and then while you are still confused about why you didn't get to say who's there, he gives you a completely random nonsense answer, like, "daddy, doorbell!" HAHAHAHAHAHA! He thinks it is uproariously funny.

the cure has the cure for what ails me
Last Wednesday, I went with both of my bro-in-laws and my sis-in-law to see the Cure. Oh yes, the Boys Don't Cry, In Between Days, Why Can't I be You, Cure.
It was freakin' awesome.
I got so hoarse from screaming like a fool.
Before the show Cakes and I had to wait awhile for L&G to get there and park their car so we wandered around checking out the tents the radio stations had set up. Under one tent they had two chicks doing makeup and hair to make you looks 80's. Cakes and I decided to go for it, as we don't normally have ample opportunities to look stupid.
I had been telling Cakes, before we left my house, how I had been toying with the idea of doing my hair and makeup like Robert Smith. Back in the day when I wore all black, oh wait, I still do that, um, back in college I could do a mean Robert Smith. I had a blunt cut, which I seem to have once again, and I would rat the ever loving crap out of it and put on my black eyeliner and red lipstick like I was drunk and make my friends laugh with my little Cure dance.
I was wearing my old Cure concert shirt with a giant pic of RS on the front so it was pretty funny. I felt like a tool when it was all done but oh well. I am getting to the age where it's starting to look like I'm trying too hard to be cool when I dress up like I used to, know what I am saying?
They played for three hours, all my favorites, and TWO long and rockin' encores. They were amazing, truly. The second encore was almost the whole of Staring at the Sea, so for me it was Just Like Heaven.
