debelopmental debelopments

I am habing a major problem. The Hoho got a hold of the laptop and pulled a couple of keys off. Normally I would think no big whoop, but when I popped the letters back into place the letter between c and b on the keyboard (between u and w in the alphabet)does not work. So I habe to use the letter B in its place. It reads like I am typing with a terrible cold. I also did not realize how much I use that letter until it became unabailable. You see what I am saying? It is highly annoying.

Yesterday Little Bear met with seberal doctors at the Children's hospital. They were a team of neurologists, neuro surgeons and orthopedists who work together to figure out the best treatment for Little Bear's cerebral palsy.

It was hopeful yet scary. His CP is called spastic quadriparesis. Which basically means he has high tone (point your toes as hard as you can and you'll feel how his legs are all the time) and it is in both arms and legs. He has pretty good control in his right hand and arm. His left is getting better but his lower body is so tight and tone that the doctors are concerned that he won't reach his full potential in therapy because he can't relax enough to learn how to sit, stand, walk.

There are seberal courses of action including drugs and surgery abailable but not all would work for him. The doctors feel that Botox shots in his arms would benefit him and that a Baclofen pump should be implanted in his side to help his back and legs. In two weeks he will go into Children's for a some more tests and for the tests he has to be under anesthesia. At that time they will gibe him the Botox shots in his arms. It's scary but I am hoping it will help him.

Then in about 6 months they will do some serious surgery to implant this debice that will supply drugs directly to the nerbes. They want him to be a little taller and to weigh a little more because the debice is about 3 to 4 inches across. I'm not ready to think about it yet. I mean getting his tonsils out was traumatizing enough.

They also did x-rays yesterday to make sure that Little Bear's hips aren't dislocated. I guess that can be a problem in cases like his. I am hoping they are fine otherwise he will habe to habe surgery to fix that as well.

When I see some of the other kids with such sebere cases of CP, I know that we are so lucky to habe such a bright, happy, little boy. And according to the doctors, he is really easy-going especially considering that his legs basically are in a constant state of "charlie horse".

I haben't been a good friend to many of my friends this summer. I habe always been bad about calling but in the last few months I habe been downright pathetic. It's just that now that I am not getting paid to go to a job, I am working harder than eber and the kids, especially Little Bear's care has come become all consuming.

On a happy endnote....

Today was "babysit neighbor kids day" and this morning the 3 year old I watch decided to pee on our family room carpet. That was swell. So I took his wet clothes and put them in a bag and then cleaned the carpet. I had to gibe him some of Little Bear's clothes to wear. Later this afternoon his sister (6 yr old) came into the ktichen and says "Bugg, little brother did something bery bad." So I followed her into the libing room, which we use as a playroom. There on the floor was a steaming pile of poo. Yes, I did say poo!! And then there was a line of poo poo foot prints down the hall to the bathroom and a poo cobered three year old wearing my son's now poo cobered clothes and a poo cobered bathroom floor. Three year old was hiding behind the door fearful of my wrath, as well he should be. I lobe yelling at him (he's ebil). He refuses to get potty trained so he gets yelled at constantly. I had to put him in the shower and hose him down and clean all the carpets. I was disgusted. I would habe taken a bleach bath after they left but I had to go to my book club.

I mean it when I say I had a shitty day.

sand sandwich

Last night was down right freaky. It was friggin' hot (111) and humid yesterday. It was sunny and there was no wind. But all of a sudden around 9 o'clock last night as I lay in bed watching Victoria Beckham (it was like a car accident, I didn't want to watch but I couldn't stop myself, dear god I need help), I heard something bang up against the side of the house so I hopped up and looked out the window.

It was like looking into a snow storm the wind was blowing like crazy and there was a ton of lightning and rain and sand flying eVerywehere. It was crazy looking. I went to the back porch window to make sure nothing was in danger of blowing away. Things looked pretty secure so I headed back to bed. The minute I lay down I heard something hit the house again, and again, and again.... Gah!

I had to put on my shoes and head out into the shitstorm. First, I went out the front door and around the side of the house. Nothing there hitting the house. But, my eyes burned from the sand and the wind was so gross it hurt to breathe. It was so hot and the air felt like static from all the lightning. The news said there were over 4,000 cloud to ground lightning strikes in less than an hour in our half of the state.

Because the yard is surrounded by a giant cement blcok wall, like every other house in this state, I had to head back inside and out the back door and around the house again. The stupid door to the sprinkler system was open and slamming repeatedly against the house. I secured it and came back inside.

I felt like I took a sand bath. It was disgusting. I was only out there for maybe two minutes, tops. This morning my allergies are all riled up. But all looks normal outside. It's already hot as shit again. The only thing that looks bad is that Grumpy's car, which normally is white, is now brown from all the sand and dirt layered on it.
