bitttersweet symphony
What an emotional rollercoaster I am on. I am so sad to leave my city, friends, and life as I know it but I am starting to get a little excited about having a nice new house and being so close to Cali, where we have some friends.
We played tourist the other day and visited many of our favorite pots. Little Bear met the Fremont Troll. I got two of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I have ever owned at REI. We drove by all the places we have lived since moving to Seattle and took some pictures. That was a little depressing because the house that we all rented has gone down the shitter. It was so cute when we lived there but now it looks ratty and no one has cut the grass since 1999. It made me a little bit sad.
The funny coincidence was that when we drove by the first apt. that Bunny and I shared (also looking pretty ratty), I realized that the street name is the same as Churchy's real first name. I had forgotten that. It's even funnier because the neighborhood we live in now shares the same fist name as Little Bear. Seems fitting I guess.
After checking out our old digs we went to the Seattle Center and took Little Bear to the International Fountain. We all got soaked and had a great time. Little Bear cried when we finally made him leave, until he understood that there was other cool stuff to go check out like, he got to go on his first carousel ride, little kid roller coaster ride, and his first trip into the Space Needle since he was four months old.
Grumpy and I both took a turn on the big person roller coaster and I remembered how much I love amusement parks, so now I am really looking forward to being able to go to Disney and all the other theme parks.
Little Bear has also discovered a new love. The skate park. On Friday, after horseback riding we were going to meet Grumpy at his work to have dinner on the patio and listen to a Rockabilly band. We were too early so we stopped at a park nearby to go for a walk. We stopped to watch all the guys ripping it up at the skate park and Little Bear got so excited watching them, he was squealing and signing that he wanted to go too. I decided why the hell not. I took him down to the smallest area and asked the guys if they would mind letting him zoom around and they were all so nice. They gave him a whole run to himself, watched out for him, and were generally really cool. I've had to take him almost everyday now and he cries everytime I make him leave, even when he is so tired he can barely hold his head up. I will have to find a park to take him to in AZ.
We are still planning a trip to Port Townsend and this amazing little cemetery at Port Gamble that I love, and then the week after that we are gone. Part of me is sad that I don't think we have time to have a party to say goodbye to everyone but part of me wants to leave without seeing anyone so my heart won't break open.
I've posted new pics... so check them out.

careful what you wish for
The other night we went for a walk in our neighborhood and took the dogs to play in the elementary school playfield. So, we put Churchy in his stroller, the dogs on their three headed leash, and Little Bear in his power chair. We are a sight going through the neighborhood for sure.
Apparently we weren't the only ones with that idea because there were a bunch of adults, kids and dogs playing there. Of course everyone turns to stare at us beacuse they don't usually see such a small kid driving himself around in a wheelchair. And the kid flies! Most of the time people smile or say hi but you'd be surprised at the number of people who stare at Little Bear with kind of snotty looks on their faces. I've actually had to tell people to take a picture already asshole! God help the first person who is mean to Bear, they will be decapitated.
As soon as Little Bear saw the play equipment, Grumpy had to take him out of his chair and put him on the bridge and slide thingy. While I played catch with the dogs and watched Churchy, Grumpy played with Little Bear. That meant Little Bear's power chair was sitting empty, but still in clear view.
I started hearing the familiar continued rise of a child's voice as it starts to whine on it's way to having a tantrum. I turned to see a mom pulling her kid away from Little Bear's chair telling the kid that she can't touch it. The kid was crying her eyes out and saying, "I WANT A WHEELCHAIR!" Her mom practically had to drag her off.
I guess I understand that kids only see a fun, fast ride. Trust me kid, I'd gladly give you his wheelchair if you'd give him your ability to walk and talk.
Today, we are going to go see some of our favorite Seattle sights since Grumpy has the day off. Should be fun.
